School buildings and public facilities are major consumers of energy. Most localities and schools do not have energy managers, but need these services for buildings, technology, and land use. Amherst agreed to partner with Eperitus to develop the model for a program that reduces energy consumption and taxpayer dollars spent, changes behavior and positively impacts the environment. The first step in the process creates a report providing specific recommendations: 1) those that could be implemented through behavior change and/or minor improvements, at little to no cost, and 2) those that would require capital funding for building and site improvements that could be done over time. Va. should fund this so it can be replicated across the state.
